Handbag Mould & Odour Treatment

A bag left in storage or a damp cupboard can develop a musty smell or visible mould. Prompt specialist treatment gives it the best chance of recovery.

Does this sound familiar?

  • A musty or stale smell
  • White or green spots on leather
  • Mould in the lining or pockets
  • Smoke or perfume odours

What we may be able to do

We clean and treat affected areas, then condition the leather. Where mould has damaged the material, we'll explain what restoration is possible.

Complete mould or odour removal can't be guaranteed.

What we can treat

  • Musty odours
  • Surface mould
  • Lining contamination
  • Smoke odours

Our approach

We assess how far the contamination has spread before treating anything, and work so as not to spread it further. Some odours ease gradually after treatment rather than straight away.

Every bag starts with a specialist assessment. We treat it according to its material and condition, preserve original materials wherever possible, and aim to improve its appearance and extend its life — we never promise a bag will look brand new.

FAQ

Questions we're asked

Can mould be removed from a leather handbag?

Surface mould can often be cleaned and treated. If it has stained or weakened the leather, some marking may remain.

Will the smell go completely?

Many odours are greatly reduced, but complete odour removal can't be guaranteed, particularly for smoke or long-term damp.

How should I store my bag to avoid mould?

Keep it in a breathable dust bag, somewhere dry and ventilated — never in plastic or a damp wardrobe.

Can I send my handbag from interstate?

Yes. We work with customers Australia-wide. Once your quote is approved we'll explain how to send your bag to us safely, and we return it insured. Adelaide customers can also visit our studio.
